Happy 49th birthday, Singapore! Celebrated my second National Day weekend with a red velvet pancake brunch at The Reading Room, a quaint little café on Bukit Pasoh Road.
They also have sausage and eggs
The Reading Room is a cozy space — perfect for exactly that — a cup of coffee and a good read. You don’t even have to bring a book; the walls are lined with shelves overflowing with books ranging from popular thrillers, Fodor’s travel guides, coffee table books on design, wine bibles, the Twilight series, to children’s books (Spotted ‘Mister God, This Is Anna’). Authors are varied: from Danielle Steel, Dan Brown, Paulo Coelho, Stieg Larsson, Stephen King, to J.R.R. Tolkien.
The decor is eclectic cool — low, comfortable couches and mismatched chairs, vintage phones, and signed books from authors — and the ambience is relaxing — easy listening music played softly in the background on our visit (think it was Michael Bublé). I can totally imagine losing track of time here as I read “one more” chapter in my book. (One more chapter, and then another, and another…)
Some of the books are also on sale. Love pre-loved!
Overall, a good place to chill on a lazy Sunday morning.
