All my friends are dead by Avery Monsen and Jory John, 2010

Published by Chronicle Books

First line: “All my friends are dead.”

Book Rx: Pick it up if you’re in the mood for a quick laugh.

As the blurb claims: it’s the saddest funny book or the funniest sad book you’ll ever read. It’s canary yellow, handy and travel-sized for your convenience.

My favorite characters:

– The recurring philosophical tree with a side table for a friend (They’re friends… or are they?)

– The chirpy guy named Doug stuck on an island with a guy named Phil

– Death himself, who claims “This job makes me feel so alive.”

all my friends are dead-2

The humor is nuanced, so while the illustrations are cute and the font size big, do not be deceived. It’s not exactly for kids. I’ve put this under Kids / YA anyway mainly for the YA crowd. They’ll get it. :)

The Author

I am 100% Filipina. I've lived in Manila, Jakarta, and London. Right now, I'm firmly planted in the tiny island of Singapore! I caught the travel bug early on. I also love reading, dark chocolate, spur-of-the-moment food trips, Fridays, dachshunds, and lazy weekends with my family or the Hubby.
